Open tool βPractical hydraulic calculators for attachment selection
Hydraulic attachments are often specified by a handful of numbers: oil flow, working pressure, power, cylinder dimensions, motor displacement and hose size. Those values are related, but they are not interchangeable. The calculators on this page are designed to make the first engineering check faster before you compare the result with the carrier and attachment manufacturer’s limits.
Use the tools to convert common units, estimate hydraulic power, calculate cylinder force and stroke speed, estimate hydraulic motor torque and rpm, and check oil velocity in hoses or pipes. They are useful when comparing excavators, loaders, tractors, forestry machines and other carriers with hydraulic attachments.
What these tools can help you check
- Flow and pressure: convert L/min, GPM, bar, PSI and other common units.
- Hydraulic power: estimate the theoretical kW available from a given flow and pressure.
- Cylinder sizing: compare push and pull force and estimate extension or retraction time.
- Hydraulic motors: estimate speed, torque and power from displacement, flow and pressure.
- Hose velocity: check whether oil velocity is reasonable for a proposed inside diameter.
The results are intended for comparison and preliminary sizing. Real systems also depend on pressure losses, temperature, valve restrictions, pump efficiency, motor efficiency, hose routing, duty cycle and the limits stated by the machine and attachment manufacturers.
Use the result with the attachment guides
A calculator is most useful when it is combined with the actual application. After checking the hydraulic numbers, continue with our attachment guides, browse attachments by machine type or compare attachment manufacturers. This helps connect the hydraulic calculation to mounting interface, carrier weight, auxiliary circuits, return-line requirements and the work the tool is expected to perform.
Frequently asked questions
Are the calculators suitable for final hydraulic system design?
They are best used for quick conversions, comparisons and first-pass sizing. Final component selection should be checked against manufacturer data and, where necessary, reviewed by a qualified hydraulic engineer.
Do the calculators include all efficiency losses?
No. Some tools include an optional efficiency input, while others show theoretical values. Pressure drop in valves, hoses and fittings can materially change the available performance.
Can I use these tools for excavator attachments?
Yes. The calculations are relevant to many excavator, loader, tractor, telehandler, forestry and material-handling attachments, provided the actual carrier specifications are used.
